Communal Urn

Commissioned by Trinity United Methodist Church in West Asheville, the Communal Urn offers the congregation a place to inter the ashes of loved ones. The ash vault is hollow with nine inches thick walls.

A key design element is a single piece of limestone located about halfway up the urn. We referred to it as “the donut” because of the opening in the center which allows the ashes to fall through. The stone features an inscription selected by the congregation. The inscription is repeated twice. “Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another.” I hand carved the letters myself.
